Artículo: What Information Is Needed for a Custom Chandelier Quote?

Room plans, finish samples, and measuring tools prepared for a custom chandelier quote

What Information Is Needed for a Custom Chandelier Quote?

The fastest useful chandelier quote is not the one with the most information. It is the one with the right information.

We regularly receive messages that are only a photograph and a sentence: “Can you make this smaller?” or “We need something like this for a stairwell.” That is enough for an initial conversation. It is not quite enough for a reliable final price, because the details hidden outside the photograph often change the structure, electrical parts, packing, and installation plan.

If you are preparing a custom chandelier inquiry, the checklist below will help us understand the project without turning your first email into a technical specification.

Start with the design direction

Send the product link, photograph, sketch, CAD view, or mood-board image that best explains what you have in mind. If there are several images, add one sentence about each: “Use the shape from image A, the warmer finish from image B, and the softer glass from image C.”

This small note matters. Two people can look at the same chandelier and notice completely different things. One may care about the branching silhouette; the other may only be responding to the way the alabaster glows.

Tell us where the light will be installed

A fixture for a dining table is planned differently from one in a double-height foyer. The same applies to a sloped ceiling, a narrow stairwell, a hotel lobby, or a kitchen island. Please tell us the room type and, if possible, include:

  • ceiling height;
  • room dimensions;
  • the size of the table, island, or furniture below;
  • whether the ceiling is flat, vaulted, or sloped;
  • a photograph, elevation, reflected ceiling plan, or simple hand sketch of the space.

Approximate measurements are fine at the beginning. Before production, final dimensions should be checked at the site by the project team or installer.

Give us a target size—or ask us to help with proportion

If the drawing already specifies a 60-inch diameter and a 72-inch overall drop, send those dimensions. If not, tell us what the fixture needs to relate to. “Centered over a 108-inch dining table” is more useful than guessing at a diameter without considering the room.

For a multi-level chandelier, it also helps to distinguish the fixture body height from the overall hanging height. The latter usually includes rods, chains, or cables between the canopy and the decorative body. Confusing these two measurements is a common source of problems, especially in stairwells.

Note the material and finish direction

You do not need to know a factory finish code. Plain language is welcome: brushed brass but not bright gold; dark bronze with a warmer undertone; less veining in the stone; clear glass rather than smoky glass.

Natural materials deserve a little flexibility. Alabaster, marble, and some handmade glass will not look identical from piece to piece. If a project requires close visual matching across several fixtures, say so early. We can then discuss sample review or material selection rather than treating the variation as an afterthought.

Include the electrical requirements you know

For projects in the United States, we normally need to confirm the intended voltage, light source, color temperature, and control method. A useful note might read: “110–120V, warm white, dimmable, controlled by the wall dimmer.” If a designer, electrician, or local authority has specified a particular listing or driver requirement, include that too.

Do not assume that every bulb, driver, or dimmer works with every fixture. Compatibility needs to be checked for the actual configuration being quoted.

Quantity, destination, and timing

Please include the number of fixtures and the delivery city or ZIP code. Even when the product itself is identical, a single residential chandelier and a group of fixtures for a hospitality project can require different production, inspection, packing, and shipping plans.

If you have a target installation date, tell us—but it should be the real target, not an artificially early date added “just in case.” Custom production time varies with the design, materials, approvals, and quantity. Once we understand those points, we can discuss a project-specific schedule and arrange production promptly after approval.

A practical quote checklist

Information Enough for an initial review Needed before production
Design Reference image, link, or sketch Approved drawing and written specification
Size Room and ceiling dimensions Confirmed fixture dimensions and drop
Material General preference Agreed material and finish direction
Electrical Country and intended use Voltage, light source, CCT, dimming, and applicable requirements
Logistics Quantity and destination Delivery details, access limits, and installation planning information

For designers and project teams

If you are working from a lighting schedule, send the relevant fixture code and drawing page rather than the entire project folder. Please mark which details are fixed and which are open to development. We can then respond to the actual design intent instead of quietly making assumptions.

Budget guidance is also useful when it is available. It does not reduce the care put into a project; it helps us decide whether to propose a fully bespoke structure, adapt an existing frame, or simplify a detail that adds cost without adding much to the finished room.

Turn a chandelier video into a clear project brief

Use a reference clip to explain the arrangement you like, then record the room measurements separately. A close-up can show a surface pattern and a ring silhouette; it cannot establish the dimensions or electrical configuration needed for a quote.

This Tianguang Lighting clip shows illuminated circular forms with gold-toned edges, an ice-like surface pattern, and fine suspension lines. The views include rings at different heights and overlapping angles. These are visual observations, not a specification for a particular model or an example of a completed customer project.

Watch Illuminated Ring Details by Tianguang Lighting, an 18.9-second view of illuminated ring forms and surface details.

Identify the arrangement before requesting a size

Save one clear frame and mark the part you mean. If a clip includes several views, distinguish the overall arrangement from the surface detail. Write “I like the overlap in this view” or “I like this edge profile” instead of assuming every view shows the same configuration. A brief becomes easier to assess when the intended shape is explicit.

For a ring composition, ask for a drawing that separates the diameter of each ring, the maximum outside span of the complete arrangement, and its vertical extent. An individual ring diameter does not describe the space occupied by several overlapping or tilted rings. The drawing should also identify the mounting point and the ceiling-to-lowest-point dimension.

Keep preferences and site facts in separate columns

Details to prepare for a ring-lighting inquiry
Design preference Site information to supply
Level, staggered, or overlapping arrangement Ceiling height and a sketch of the intended mounting location
Desired visual width and depth Furniture length, width, height, and final position
Preferred surface appearance Photographs of nearby finishes under the room's lighting
Desired switching and brightness control Existing supply and control information confirmed by the installer

Use inches consistently on a US project sheet, and label approximate measurements. A photograph can help explain a beam, slope, or offset electrical point, but it should accompany measured dimensions. Record the delivery ZIP code and any doorway, stair, or elevator access limits separately; fixture dimensions do not establish wooden-crate dimensions.

Confirm the configuration in writing

A gold-toned appearance does not identify a metal, and a glowing surface does not establish color temperature or dimming capability. Ask for the actual material, finish, dimensions, and electrical configuration in the written proposal. Tianguang does not offer stepless brightness-dimming upgrades for fixture bodies under 5 inches in diameter; larger bodies still require a model-specific compatibility check. Brightness dimming and color-temperature switching are separate features.

Before approving production, compare the proposal with the marked reference frame and the site sheet. Our drawing review guide explains the next review stage. Keep undecided items visible so that a visual preference never becomes an assumed specification.

An imperfect inquiry is still welcome

You may not have every answer yet. Construction could still be underway, the designer may be reviewing finish samples, or the electrician may not have selected the dimmer. Send what is known and label what is undecided. We will tell you which missing decisions affect the quote and which can wait.

A useful first inquiry: “We need one chandelier above a 108-inch dining table in California. The ceiling is 11 feet. We like the form in the attached image but want a quieter aged-brass finish and warm diffused light. We do not have the final diameter yet.”

To begin, use our custom-lighting inquiry page and attach the clearest information you have. We would rather help shape a good brief than wait for you to invent specifications on your own.
